Never-Ending Watchmen

Watchmen, the landmark graphic novel of 1987, has expanded into a multi-media franchise that includes role-playing and video games, a motion comic, a blockbuster movie, a prestige HBO series, and a series of comic book parodies, pastiches, prequels and sequels. This book draws on theories of adaptation, intertextuality and authorship to relate the unstable, shifting stories of Watchmen to our contemporary climate of post-truth, where we have to weigh up contradictory versions of the facts and decide which we believe.

BFI Film Classics: Star Wars

The first book to take Star Wars seriously: it argues that the 1977 movie captures the tensions in Lucas’ approach - between order and resistance, formal structure and creative experiment - which shape his films of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the galactic conflict of his science fiction saga.

Also translated into French and Turkish editions, and re-released with a new introduction in 2019.
